What the CQC doesThe CQC ensures "health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care, and encourages care services to improve".

To achieve this, the CQC regularly checks care services and providers, including care homes, GP practices, and mental health services, hospitals, to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

In addition, the CQC are responsible for setting standards for care services and they will take action against services that do not comply, such as issue warnings or fines.

Giving feedback on the care people receive

When people tell the CQC about their experience of care (either good or bad) or a concern about a service, the CQC uses the feedback to understand the quality of care that is provided, and looks at it along with other information from the service. All the feedback that the CQC receives helps to make care better for everyone.
