Wellbeing and staying well
For some people, life is very different since the coronavirus outbreak and staying indoors alone can present both challenges and opportunities. For others, staying in and being alone is part of everyday life and it is possible to develop coping strategies that lessen the impact of isolation. Being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely.
Organisations that can offer support with your wellbeing
If you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and feeling anxious, worried or want to talk to someone, including in BSL, Royal Association of Deaf People provide a Wellbeing Live Chat on Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 2pm to 6pm.
From May, many of the lockdown rules will begin to relax. Getting back to ordinary life after a year in lockdown will be a difficult for everyone. To help you with getting back to ordinary life, Age UK Camden and University of College London have a programme called Home Health that can support people over the age of 65 to increase energy and muscle strength, manage tasks that are becoming more challenging, plan ahead so that you continue to do what you want to do. Age UK Camden has launched a Building Resilience Programme to support people age 50+ who are experiencing, or are about to have a 'life-changing event'. A life-changing event is wide-ranging, and it could be retirement, bereavement, health problems, relationship breakdown, changes in financial circumstances, and many other situations where a person could benefit from in-depth support. Camden Home Library service will bring reading, music and films to your home every 4 weeks if you are housebound due to disability, limited mobility including due to an operation or accident, mental health issues, isolated, frail or vulnerable. To find out more or register, email email@example.com.
Camden Library Request and Read service is a new service in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as a way to get books to library members while keeping customers and staff safe. The service allows users to order and collect books from some of our libraries (Highgate, Kentish Town, Swiss Cottage and West Hampstead libraries). It provides a directory of support and services you may wish to consider in Camden to help you stay well and connect with your local community. Note: due to coronavirus, some face to face services may be suspended, so always check the details first with the relevant service or organisation.
Public Health England and Sport England have produced a downloadable guide to being active at home during the coronavirus outbreak.

RecommendMe is a website that lists social events and activities available without leaving the home. Some of these require access to the internet but many do not.

There are some very basic needs that contribute to being well that may have become more difficult in isolation such as getting food and shopping, and money and banking. If you need practical support with any of these things you can contact the Camden Social Prescribing and Care Navigation Service. More information about the service is available.
