Guidance on flu and coronavirus

COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) is a respiratory illness which is very contagious, and spreads quickly.

Most people with COVID-19 have mild respiratory symptoms that feel much like a cold or flu. But it can be much more serious for older adults, people with underlying medical conditions, and those who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19.

For more information on coronavirus, including on vaccinations, accessible information and what to do if you are experiencing symptoms, visit our COVID-19 page.

COVID-19 and flu vaccinations this autumn

The NHS is offering flu and COVID-19 vaccines to people at greater risk of serious illness this autumn and winter (ie. winter 2023/2024).

Those who can now get both vaccines through the NHS include:

  • everyone aged 65 and above
  • pregnant women
  • care home residents
  • people aged 6 months old and over with certain health conditions
  • frontline health and care staff
    carers
  • household contacts of those at higher risk.
