Camden and Islington Community Palliative Service
The NHS Camden and Islington Community Palliative Care Service provides specialist care and advice in community and hospital settings for patients with life-limiting illness.
Palliative care is an approach that aims to maintain and, as far as possible, improve the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness.
Palliative care for adults can include:
- provideing relief from pain and other distressing symptoms
- integrating the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care
- offering a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death
- offering a support system to help the family cope during the patient's illness and in their own bereavement
- using a team approach to address the needs of patients and their families, including bereavement counselling, if indicated.
The NHS Camden and Islington Community Palliative Care team covers the areas of South Camden, North East Westminster and Islington, and teenagers and adults in University College London Hospital (UCLH), Princess Grace Hospital, Harley Street Clinic and Harley Street at UCLH.
Specialists in the palliative care team include:

- occupational therapists
- physiotherapists
- social workers
- clinical psychologists and
- assistant practitioners.
