Housing Benefit

Housing Benefit could help with paying rent, ground rent or service charges. For help with mortgage, see Support for mortgage interest.

Making a new claim for Housing Benefit

A new claim for Housing Benefit can be made by people who:

  • have reached State Pension age
  • are living in temporary accommodation
  • are living in specified accommodation. Specified accommodation usually means that your landlord is providing significant care and support to you in your home

You can find out more about Housing Benefit and make a claim

Working age people and support with housing costs

If you are of working age, you can no longer make a new claim for Housing Benefit, unless you meet the accommodation exceptions already mentioned.

To get support with housing related costs, you will need to claim Universal Credit.

You can find out more about Universal Credit and make a claim.

Working age people and Housing Benefit

Some working age people may still be getting Housing Benefit and they can remain on this Benefit unless they have a change of circumstances, for example they have moved home.  These people are yet to be migrated to Universal Credit, or they have not had a current change in circumstances.

If the change in circumstances is that you have changed your address (still within Camden), you can keep your Housing Benefit until you are migrated to Universal Credit.
